The path to acquiring a Dynamics CRM Gold Competency for your organisation is easier than you might expect.

While sometimes Microsoft's own Certification guides are a little dense and confusing, we have put together a simple and easy to follow exam guide below, to help you on your way to becoming a Microsoft Gold partner.

CRM Gold Competency Requirements

On 12th April 2016 Microsoft announce the phasing out of 12 competencies including the CRM (Customer Relationship Management) Competency.

It is replaced by the all new Cloud CRM Competency which is even easier for Microsoft partners to attain.

To become a Gold Cloud CRM partner you need to:

Pass Technical assessments, exams, and certifications

Four individuals in total must be certified.

Two individuals must pass one exam from Option 1:

Exam MB2-710: Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Deployment (2015)


Exam MB2-706: Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online Deployment

AND one exam from Option 2:

Exam MB2-704: Microsoft Dynamics CRM Application

(We recommend our 2 day course T4CRM057 - CRM 2016 Applications Certification Bootcamp)


Exam MB2-714: Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 Customer Service

(We recommend our 2 day course T4CRM056 - CRM 2016 Customer Service Certification Bootcamp)


Exam MB2-713: Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 Sales

(We recommend our 2 day course T4CRM055 - CRM 2016 Sales Certification Bootcamp)


Exam MB2-709: Microsoft Dynamics Marketing

(We recommend our 3 day course T4CRM060 - Microsoft Dynamics Marketing Certification Bootcamp)


The other two of the four individuals must pass one of the following exams:

Exam MB2-712: Microsoft Dynamics CRM 2016 Customization and Configuration


Exam MB2-707: Microsoft Dynamics CRM Customization and Configuration

In addition to the above exams requirement there is the following additional requirements to become a Cloud CRM Gold Partner.

Performance requirement

Partner must have deployed (assigned) 450 seats (225 in developing markets) of Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, Microsoft Dynamics Marketing, Microsoft Social Engagement or Parature within the last 12 months.

Note: These seats do not need to be new CRM seats sold in the last twelve months but rather they are CRM seats where you as a partner have been assigned as 'Partner of Record' by your customers.


The Partner needs to provide Five Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, Microsoft Dynamics Marketing, Microsoft Social Listening, or Parature customer references from within the last 12 months.


The Partner must pay the gold competency fee of £2,400.

What are the benefits of Being a Cloud CRM Partner?

CRM Gold Competency Requirements up to June 30th

4 exams must be split between at least 6 people. These exams have to be either the current version of CRM or the older CRM 2013 version. We would highly recommend the current versions, as they are the most up-to-date.

  1. CRM Customisations and Configurations - either CRM - MB2-707 OR CRM 2013 - MB2-703
  2. CRM Applications - either CRM - MB2-704 OR CRM 2013 - MB2-700
  3. CRM Online Deployment MB2-706 OR CRM Installation exam - MB2-708
  4. Managing Microsoft Dynamics Implementations - MB5-705 (note 3 people must pass this)

T4CRM031 CRM Certification Boot Camp course - covering the first 2 exams MB2-707 and MB2-704
• Attended by Group A (who usually will be your consultants helping your customers design and build their CRM systems).

T4CRM008 - CRM Online Deployment course - covering the 3rd exam MB2-706
• Attended by Group B (who usually are the administrators in your organisation who will be responsible for helping set up the CRM Online administration for the customer). Note that over 85% of new CRM customers are buying CRM Online licences over the more traditional CRM On-premise licences.
